2013/14 League Season – Secretary’s Report – Wednesday 21 May 2014
It has been another sad year for the league with the loss of Barry Parker who was not only the treasurer but a very active member of the league. You could always rely on Barry to be involved in organizing every competition and endeavor the league carried out. He will be missed.
I would like to thank all the members of the committee for their assistance this year. They certainly put a lot of effort into ensuring you all enjoy playing snooker. I would include Peter Saville in those thanks. He spends a lot of time updating and running the league website.
You will have noticed that the format of the website has changed, I think this is an improvement and certainly allows everyone to keep up to date. The addition of player averages has been popular. We did not send out weekly results via email this year as all the information is on the website. I know a few league members have missed this.
I thought all the competitions this year were well attended and resulted in close finishes. The premier league ended with just 4 points separating the top 3 teams and the team KO was very close with both semi finals being drawn and going to an extra game. I consider the Team KO as the best test of the league Handicap system.
However we did have a couple of problems with competitions this year with some misunderstandings. To ensure this is not repeated it will be my intention next year (if elected) at the start of the season to have a nominated committee member for each of the competitions. I would also mention that several of our teams have not completed the contact list especially regarding emails, this certainly makes our job more difficult.
I have again managed to secure a good deal on the trophies which assists with keeping our finances in credit.
We sent a team to the Saffron Walden Challenge again this year. Congratulations to Bruno, Ed Tuerena and Stuart Turner who achieved a creditable 4th place.
We have had two offers of Sponsorship for the league so I have included this as an agenda item.
I would ask clubs to give me an early indication of entrants for the leagues next season.
